Note to self

In Our Wananga class we have been learning how to embrace our emotions and how to properly deal with them.

I read a poem by Jaluddin Rumi,

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain  them all

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows

Who violently sweep your house

Empty of its furniture

Still, treat each guest honorably.
It may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame,

the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

It has a very unexpected twist on the meaning behind it, I hadn't gotten it until my teacher had thoroughly, explained it which mind you, was a very long process. The meaning behind it is We should treat our emotions as if they were a guest in our house, our body is our guest house and our emotions are our guests and we should treat them as we would any guest even if we don't like the emotion we still treat it as a guest.
