Rainbow Paper

Aim: To separate colors by using the process of chromatography.

Materials:

  1. Chromatography Filter paper
  2. Water-based felt pens
  3. Clear Plastic Cup
  4. Water
  5. Ruler
  6. Pencil

Process:

Step 1: We had to get into a group of three

Step 2: Then we had to get the filter paper with the water-based pens

Step 3: After that, we had to get a ruler and a pencil and draw a line then put two dots of water-based colored pens

Step 4: then we put the filter paper in the cup and put about 1cm water into it you will need to tilt the cup so when you tilt it the water must hit the line for it to work

Step 5: Then after we took pictures and blogged about what we needed and did we showed the teacher

Step 6: and then you can move onto the next science activity

Conclusion: What have I learnt from this experiment?

I have learned what chromatography is and how it is used which is very fascinating, it helps the police a lot and not even just the police but like restaurants, because some people would fake their signatures, the way the water just flows up the paper like a waterfall in reverse. the way it works is because some of the coloured substances dissolve in the solvent used better than others, so they travel further up the paper and each color travels at a different pace. A pencil line is drawn, and two spots of ink are placed on it.
