Sport Day

W.A.L.T  read between the lines and guess what people are thinking and feeling
Read the story again to yourself. Can you find examples of where the author doesn’t tell you how the characters are feeling but by reading between the lines you can make a good guess? Here is an example to get you started.

Can you find at least 5 examples?

What the author tells us
How I think the character is   feeling (reading between the lines)
17
“I sat down and watched the bees crawling in and out of the daisies”
I think Grace feels distracted and board. She doesn't think the ball will come anywhere near her.
17
Mrs Miller chose Justin and Emma to be the captains.the rest of us lined up
I think Grace feels sad because no one ever chose Grace.
16
First there's the slow-motion stage
,when the ball seems to hang in the air..
I thank Grace feels sad because
She's always the last one there.
18
I leapt to feet. There was the ball,
Hanging high in the sky
I think Grace felt scared frightened
19
“No,” I whispered.Justin had whacked
An enormous hit, right out to the boundary .
I think Grace felt brave to catch
the ball
19
Emma was running as fast as she could.”Get out of the way,”
I think Grace  ignored Emma for
calling her an idiot
