The impact of angels, movement & Shots

A- Fight- Jack is fighting Julien because Julien calls Auggie a freak.

-Teacher pulling jack of -Mr brown

-Dutch tilt used -Shows something is not right

(Make one person smaller than the other)

Low angle- Julien looks weak and vulnerable 

Viewer feels- Shocked - didn't expect jack reaction, surprised, concerned, uneasy. 

Director-Suprised, sad, worried for Jack 

Other techniques- Music creates atmosphere, minor, slow-motion-music more intense 

In the film Wonder, low angle shots were used effectively. This is demonstrated in the scene where Jack attacks Julien because he called Auggie a freak. In this scene, a low angle dutch tilt shot is used to make jack look stronger and Julien weak and vulnerable.

This makes the audience feel shocked, surprised and concerned because we didn't expect a violent reaction from Jack who not aggressive before this point. The purpose of this was to show the theme of kindness as jack finally stands up for Auggie. Combined with this is the use of quiet, minor, slow motion to create an atmosphere and the event feel more intense. This can be contrasted to the nature reserve fight scene where Auggie now shows kindness by standing up for jack.

B- Fight Scene- Nature Reserve- Auggie makes friends, High five- No plague, Jack Amos  & others. They beat up and ran away from 7th grade.

Wide-angle, Long shot - Makes us feel like a bystander watching an important moment, the emotions are the characters, not ours. 

Audience- Joyful, proud, Cheerful, ecstatic, relieved- Auggie has friends

Director-Shows Auggie is finally fitting in, Shows theme importance of friendship or kindness 

Other Techniques- Lighting-Use of shadow-silhouette outlining the boys, feels like they are all in it together.

Kindness and what it means to be kind

By being friendly it sometimes means being generous or considerate. Kindness has a meaning if someone is naive or weak, being kind often requires a lot of courage and strength. Being kind means that helping people is not letting them copy your work/homework just because they are panicked out of there mind. Being kind means that you'll buy your friend food because you want to make sure they eat and you don't expect anything back from them. Being kind means having empathy and or sympathy. It's important to be kind because it makes you feel good about yourself. Doing things for other people helping them with maths or just general work or anything, it just makes you feel warm that you accomplished something. Kindness is a give and get thing a bit like respect. even if it's a small thing it's still the thought that matter's

We started by grabbing all of our utensils and we got our mise en place, then we got the flour, salt then we sifted it all together after sifting one of my teammate cut the butter into small squares, then placed it into the flour mixture and rubbed the butter in with their hands.

Our team worked very well there were a few muck ups but we got over it and accomplished the dough, we got our toppings on and we rolled the dough and had it cut and placed it onto the lined tin and put it into the oven.

It had a very delicious taste to it and it tasted very fresh as well, the texture was mild there wasn't too much to it. the color was a nice golden brown too.

I would probably add more things to it, like spice it up or just add something to get the flavor kind of more exciting,

Workshop 1: Unpacking themes & Ideas

Kindness- Respecting others, Look after each other, Speak nicely, Treat people how you want to be treated, Include others.

Example 1: Summer sits with August Pullman, this shows the theme of kindness because summer left her friends who were saying mean things to go and sit with August who looked upset and down. Kindness is important to the story overall because without it Auggie would not of build confidence, make friends and feel accepted  

Example 2: Auggie shows kindness when he shares his answers with jack will, this links to the theme because Auggie sees someone in need, Jack isn't even his friend yet, but helps him anyway. So this is why it will be important because it is the first step to enable Auggie to make friends, being kind starts this friendship that will be important later in the film.

Impotence in family and friendship: Through these relationships, Auggie & others learn the values of trust and self-confidence. They are less alone.

Example 1: The scene where Miranda talks about spending Christmas with the Pullmans.

-links to theme - Miranda is happy and included by the Pullmans

- She is ignored/forgotten at home

- She realizes that she misses having friends/family 

-Important because makes Miranda recognize what she's lost/misses and she makes to reconnect with via and the Pullmans 

Example 2: The boys come to rescue jack & Auggie 

- Auggie is included, has friends and is feeling trust and self-confident

- Ultimate example of acceptance and friendship, his classmates had hs back without him asking. First time they treat him as an equal.

Being kind vs being popular- Doing the right thing even when your friends don't want to, others pressure you

Example 1:Julien picks on Auggie in front of others, Auggie is an easy target, It makes Julien look popular when others laugh.

- links to theme- Julien chooses to be popular at the expense of others, chases to bully Auggie to seem popular.

- Important because choosing popular has negative outcomes, Julien eventually loses his friends, leaves school and is unhappy. However, jack, who chooses kind has lots of friends and is happy and doesn't get kicked out for bullying
