Muic Relfection

I had quite enjoyed music last term because it had focused a bit more on instruments and I thought that it was really nice to have more time doing practical stuff. One skill I had learned last term was being able to use the pedal on the piano, I did get to perform the song I had learned was Clair De Lune By Debussy and I was quite happy with the way it had turned out, I will definitely be taking music next term and I wanna try and focus more on the piano and how to incorporate the pedals.

Music

The song I will be performing In music is called clair de lune, it's a classical piano piece by Debussy. I'll be doing a solo because it's a bit easier to practice because I won't have to try and teach someone else and myself at the same time, I think I need to work on using the piano pedals a bit more to make the song feel more like its self since the song is very harmonious, I think trying to implement the pedel and the keys will be hard but it will be a good challenge.

Visual Art: Transcription Street Art

In Art we have been looking at various types of street murals, we were to look at different cultural types of murals or just any art style. I quite enjoyed the proccess of having to use a grid and use a different section of the art, I used half of the Face and tried to have my own spin on it which somehow worked but the orginal by Lionel Smit is still way better. I Think I could try do the whole proccess again and use paint instead and try use different brushes or palate knives to make it rough but soft.

Street Art: mural

I quite enjoy this mural not only because its vibrant and has really good attention to detail but the shading and the lighting is really beautiful and it has this affect of dragging your eyes in and theres so much tiny details that is why i'm so intrigued with this mural.

Celebrating Cultures

The Kete Celebrating culture, I created a poster board about my culture of South Africa, I had a few conflicts of what I would make but I thought I would go out of my comfort zone and just pushed myself, It was very hard to think of things to write about or put on the board. But I had decided to write about my life in Africa and a map of South Africa with some animal information, Then for some reason I made a Springbok out of clay to push it further.

Art - Collage

In art we were given a task of doing a collage of anything we could find in a random magazine, and it took awhile to find something that interested me but once I saw this one bright yellow page with a wine bottle and the quote saying "It's an Italian thing" I knew I had to improvise something with it which was a difficult task to do since nothing really matched or made sense together but I took advantage of that and tried to make it as complex as possible.

After some Intense thinking and constantly going back to the drawing board I came up with masterpiece, one thing I'm really proud of is the hammerhead shark in a sequence skirt then I plopped in some flowers and the leading lines to try and make the wine the focus.

The Beatles

}The Beatles {

                                      The Beatles: Yesterday

Paul McCartney wrote this song and was the only Beatle to play on it. It was the first time a Beatle recorded without the others, and marked more independent accomplishments among the group. While John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote The Beatles early songs together. This was the first Beatles song that could not be reproduced live without additional musicians.

Gallipolli

The Last Post is a song that has been around for hundreds of years, its sound one of the most distinctive in existence. Citizens and members of militaries worldwide are able to recognize its somewhat haunting, poignant notes, played by a single bugler. It is a tune that bonds people together, going past the country, city, and religious lines that divide us all.

Anti -- Vietnam

In Social Study's we are on the unit about the war against Vietnam, and we are looking at the music the protesters had made. The major artist we looked at was John Lennon.

John and Yoko stayed in bed for eight days, beginning on May 26, in an effort to promote world peace. They got a great deal of media attention, which is exactly what they wanted to promote their cause. This song quickly became the anthem of the antiwar movement as many Americans felt the country should not be fighting in Vietnam. During the bed-in he sang Give peace a chance several times for the reporters and he recorded it in the hotel room while the reporters were listening using only a simple rented four track tape recorder.

Music

In music we are going to be performing in a group for our assessment, My group is only Addison with myself and we were looking at doing Smells like Teen spirit by Nirvana I was thinking of playing the electric guitar bit while my friend Addison sings the lyrics. The song Smells like teen spirit's background story Kurt Cobain said that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was an attempt to write a song in the style of the Pixies, a band he greatly admired. What I think will be challenging will kind of be the chords but also the lyrics because it is a alt rock song its a bit rough,. The bit of the song we are going to be working on the pre chorus.

Parihaka

~| Parihaka |~

Background Meaning of the Parihaka
The song tells the story of the Taranaki Parihaka peaceful protests.

What the line explains about their passive resistance method

Te Whiti he used the language of the spirit,

Then stood accused, the madman and his dream,

He saw the train go roaring through the tunnel,

He heard the voice travel on the magic wire,

But he loved the silence of the river,

He watched the dog piss on the cannon's wheel.

By putting "You can't pull the roots out" implies that you can't pull the parihaka out of the person or people, you can move them but they will always be parihaka and have the spirit of Te Whiti.

Spirituals and The hidden meanings

1Singing was a tradition brought from Africa by the first slaves; sometimes their songs were called spirituals, Singing served many purposes such as providing repetitive rhythm for repetitive work. Harriet Tubman and other slaves used songs as strategy to to communicate with other slaves in the struggle for their freedom. Coded songs contained words giving giving directions on to escape also known as signal songs, songs used Biblical references and analogies of Biblical people. Places and stories, comparing them to their own history of slavery; for example "being bound for the land of Canaan" for a white person could mean ready to die or go to heaven, but to a slave it meant ready to go to Canada.

These are the lyrics of some songs that have been passed along generations

Wade In the Water

Wade In the Water - Harriet Tubman

Chorus: Wade in the Water, wade in the water children.

Wade in the Water. God’s gonna trouble the water.
Who are those children all dressed in Red?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that Moses led.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

Who are those children all dressed in White?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones of the Israelites.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

Chorus

Who are those children all dressed in Blue?
God’s gonna trouble the water.
Must be the ones that made it through.
God’s gonna trouble the water.

Harriet Tubman Was an Ex-Slave famous for helping thousands of slaves escape She used hidden messages in her songs, Harriet used the underground rail road which were secret passages used to sneak the slaves out of the slaves states.

Wade in the water is a type of spirituals with a hidden meaning; when Harriet was saying wade in the water she meant follow her and go through the water so you wont be spotted on land and the reason for going through the water is the slaves wouldn't smell so if the master sent out dogs the dogs wouldn't be able to track their scent.
