In science we went over the topic of the periodic table we had only learnt up to the 30th element, we had learnt a numerous amount of stuff that we went over but the main ones we focused on were.
- Mass Number
- Elements
- Atomic
- Different Columns
- Different rows
- Features of the elements (E.g Alkali Metals, Transition metals, Gases)
Mass Number
The sum of the numbers of protons and neutrons present in the nucleus of an atom. The small contribution of mass from electrons is disregarded in calculating the mass number. This approximation of mass can be used to easily calculate how many neutrons an element has by simply subtracting the number of protons from the mass number.
Chemical Element
Chemical element, also called element, any substance that cannot be decomposed into simpler substances by ordinary chemical processes. Elements are the fundamental materials of which all matter is composed
Atomic
The observed atomic mass is slightly less than the sum of the masses of the protons, neutrons, and electrons that make up the atom. The difference, called the mass defect, is accounted for during the combination of these particles.
The alkali metals are so reactive that they are generally found in nature combined with other elements. Simple minerals, such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and carnallite (a potassium-magnesium chloride).
Experiment
In science we did an experiment on how Alkali metals reacts towards Cold water and universal indicator (shows whether something is a gas or a base), We had started with a small piece which started to make smoke and spin around the bowl and the color had changed to a very vibrant purple and sunk to the bottom and it started to spread around the bottom and by the third or fourth time we put the alkali metal into the the water had a really vibrant glow of purple around the bottom coming up, after we begged our science teacher to put a bigger piece she obliged and put a bigger piece but took the wax of thus including it to light on fire and explode it was a small expulsion but it was a very cool spur of the moment.
